regional-cookbooks Cooking Mickey Useful Tip

We picked this book up while in Disney World and have only made a few things out of it. We made the Canadian Cheddar Cheese soup and it was great. However, the New England Pot Roast recipie says to cook a 3 lb roast for 40 min to 1 hour. I would advise you add about 3 hours to that if you want it “fork tender” as the book says. The gravy was good, though.

I’m sure most of the recipies are good. At the least, the book makes for a good souvenir.

5 Great Places to Eat While You’re in Orlando

Orlando is a great town to visit for the beaches, Disney World, the culture and most assuredly the food. Regardless of whether you’re in Orlando for a short stay or for a long time to come, you should make sure and dine at some of these premiere restaurants. They are all renowned for their excellent food and atmosphere, and the last one is perfect for families on vacation.

Moonfish:

This restaurant is one of the more well-known establishments in the area, and diners can pick from the freshest seafood and some great aged steaks. In addition, they have sushi, sashimi and a raw bar for oysters. No matter what you are in the mood for, there is something for you at Moonfish. They have a 24 oz. Prime Ribeye that is delicious and intimidatingly gigantic, and the Almond Fried Lobster Tails are exquisite. The restaurant is located just minutes from the Disney World Theme Park, so if you are on vacation there, this is just a quick ride away.

La Coquina Chef’s Table:

This restaurant offers visitors the unique experience of actually dining inside the kitchen. You can sit and watch while the chefs prepare elaborate Cooking Mickey and delicious meals right in front of you. La Coquina offers a 7 course meal that changes daily, and they have a fantastic selection of wines to accompany any meal. This restaurant is a particularly fun place to go on a date, as the chefs provide an element of entertainment, though the atmosphere manages to retain a pleasingly intimate setting, enabling you to have a quiet conversation as you watch your food being cooked.

The Boheme:

Located in the luxury hotel, The Grand Bohemian, this AAA Four-Diamond restaurant is the perfect setting for any sort of nice meal. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and their “power breakfast” is a well-kept secret of locals from Orlando. There is also a Sunday Jazz Brunch, which is a particularly fun experience (Sundays 10:30am – 2:30pm). They also offer a special menu for children, so families are most assuredly welcome.

Del Frisco’s:

This renowned steakhouse has become a recognizable name throughout the country. The family owned restaurant has been serving up some of Florida’s best food since 1993. Some of the more enticing items are the fresh baked break, the Australian lobster tails, the USDA Prime corn-fed beef, and of course, the 6,500 bottles of wine that they have in their cellar. Del Frisco’s has been voted as “Extraordinary” by the Zagat guide since 1997, Best Steakhouse in Orlando by CitySearch 2009, and Maxim Magazine voted it one of the 10 best steak houses in America.

Chef Mickey’s:

If you are looking for a great place to take the kids (that has food you’ll like too), look no further than Chef Mickey’s. Mickey and his whole gang of friends are there, and the atmosphere is light hearted and fun. They suggest making a reservation in advance; especially if you are planning a celebratory get together with lots of people. Dinner for the adults includes items like roasted chicken, carved beef, and food for the kids like macaroni and cheese. There is also a sundae bar, which everyone will be sure to enjoy.

I bought this book for my niece, and she loved it.I thought it was an excellent cooking book for kids. She really enjoyed cooking with this book!

This is a great book for kids and moms (or dads). It has simple, easy to follow recipes and little girls especially love the Disney character illustrations. Just be prepared when your child gets this book; they will want to start cooking right away. The only change I would like to see is for it to be spiral bound or note-book style so that it will lay flat.

This is probably the least interesting cooking book from Disney Parks. There are lots of repeats from other Disney cooking books (especially from Miceky’s Gourmet Cookbook) and some of the recipes are so complicated… that you end up just reading them. There are much better Disney cookbook out there; I would definitely pass on this one if you want to only own 1 Disney cookbook.

This is a great resource for recipes everywhere from Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Resorts, as well as Disney’s Cruiseline. I’ve only tried one recipe so far (the Honey Sesame Chicken) and it was devine (frying in a non-stick pot helps). When I find more time I plan on trying many others.

I love this cookbook. They recipes are easy to follow and they taste like you’ve slaved for hours. Totally awesome. Not to mention it’s great to some home from vacation and find out that you can have some of your favorite meals at you own table. Not to mention the kids will eat things that are good for them just because they know it’s a “Mickey recipe”. My only complaint is that I want more recipes.

Ok I purchased this cookbook for one recipe and that was the Green Bean recipe but ended up loving the entire cookbook. It is the same cookbook at the “Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook” so don’t but both of them, they are the same page per page, word for word. I found out the hard way.
You will find quite a few recipes from the Grand Floridian and if you have ever eaten there you know everything is excellent. Several of the restaurants they feature are no longer around like the ones from the Disney Village now deemed the Disney Market Place so you are able to recapture a taste that is no longer around.
Even King Stephens Banquet Hall has a few recipes and we all know that is now Cinderella’s dining room now. It is a good book with tons of delicious and savory food. The deserts will make you go wild.
I would recommend this book for people who can’t cook and people who can. They are all simple and easy to prepare. Most are made with simple ingredients you have readily available in your kitchen, so no running to the store for something weird or special.

I too made the mistake of purchasing “Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook”. They are the same book! So now I have two copies. I’ll just have to give the 2nd copy away. This book is filled with wonderful recipes. I’ve already tried two recipes and both turned out delicious. Looking foward to cooking up some more of Mickey’s recipes.
